Backing Up Photos

In digital photography the memory card is our film. Now a memory card is stronger the traditonal film but is still not fool proof. So backing up what we shoot is imperative. I double backup everything I shoot, because hey you never know.

So heres how I back up you may have a better way, if so please let me know

First as soon as I get home or the moring after, I upload all the pictures to my harddrive. The photos are sorted by date, so if I every have to go back and find a photo I know where to look. I have a 160gb so Im good on space for now, But harddrives crash, so just in case I also back up on line using, GMAIL yes I said it Gmail. Gmail gives you 6gb of free space you can use so. I installed GDrive(google it) and I can upload photos in a zip file to the email so if ever I need them I know where to find them.

So how do you store\backup your photos. Let me know.

DIY pop-up flash Diffuser

To Take a page from the Strobist.com, All light is not created Equal. So we as photographer must come up with ways to balance it.
So I up with a simple to make but effective flash diffuser for those of us with the cameras that have a pop up flash and a hot shoe. I got to thinking of the Idea after looking at a video on Gary Fongs Puffer-Diffuser.

All you will need is a:
1: Wire hanger
2: Plyers/Vice Grip
3: Something to use as a diffuser Plasitc Cup, Kool Aid Scoop, or Bottom of Medicine bottle ( anything that has the opacatiy you are looking for)

Ok here comes the fun part cut the wire hanger so that you are working with straight a 9" inch peice, this may take some trail and error, but try to bend it in the middle so that the bent peiece fits into the hot shoe port(thats the hardest part). Next bend the outer peices over your popup flash and fold them in. Put two holes in you diffuser then insert the modified hanger peice. Presto. Popup flash Diffuser.

It should look somthing like this.

Heres how It looks on my camera:

Hand here's a before and after shot:

If enough people ask I will post a video on how its done.

The Best Photography Tip Of All

Take More Photos. As simple as it sounds, this is the greatest tip I have ever received on becoming a better photographer. It only make sense, if you want to become a better free throw shooter, take more free throw shots. Repetition is key, you want to get better at something do it again and again and again.
So lets get this right if I want to be a better photographer all I have to do is take more shots. Thats half the story, the other half stay tuned to this blog.
